Edmonton Wildcats Fall Short Against Saskatoon Hilltops

The Edmonton Wildcats lost to the Saskatoon Hilltops this afternoon at Clarke Stadium.

The Hilltops took an early lead when the Wildcats conceded a safety 1:53 into the game, making the score 2-0. The Hilltops increased their lead with two field goals by Brett Thorarinsson at the 4:52 and 10:15 marks. The Wildcats responded with an Ideen Samadi field goal at 12:00, ending the first quarter with the Hilltops leading 8-3. The second quarter saw no change on the score board until the last minute when Wildcat Ideen Samadi kicked another successful field goal, narrowing the Hilltops lead to 8-6.

The second half of the game saw a lot of strong defense plays, with no touchdowns or successful field goals from either team. The game ended with a score of 8-6 for the Hilltops.

Offensively the Wildcats had a total of 355 yards, with 206 yards rushing and 152 yards passing. Quarterback Taylor Yaremchuk completed 12 out of 35 passing attempts for 152 yards. Running Back Levon Hawreliak had 22 carries for 179 yards. Receiver Brad Quartel had 5 catches for a total of 56 yards, and Rick LeMoignan had 3 catches for 27 yards.

Defensively for the Wildcats, Aidan Panchyshyn lead the team with 21 points, comprised of 10 tackles and 1 assisted tackle. Brett Morrow had 5 tackles giving him 10 points.

The Wildcats play again Sunday, October 6 against the Saskatoon Hilltops at Gordie Howe Bowl in Saskatoon. Game time is 1pm.
