Edmonton Wildcats Host the Hilltops

The Edmonton Wildcats host their second home game of the season against the Saskatoon Hilltops at Clarke Park on Saturday August 22nd at 7:00 pm. The Hilltops are coming off an upset lose at the hands of the Regina Thunder this past Saturday and will be out to right the ship and prevent 2 loses in a row. The Wildcats on the other hand are coming off a blowout win against the Winnipeg Rifles and are riding a 2 game winning streak heading into this weekend’s matchup.

The offence led by Andy Pilon is looking to continue the success they had in Winnipeg with the running and passing game while controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

The defense has been solid stopping the running game again this year and look as good if not better than last year with Mike Podloski racking up 19 points on 9 tackles to lead the team this past week against Winnipeg.

As a special note Defensive Back and Return Specialist David Berg received another recognition this past week from the CJFL in the season opener against Calgary.

Edmonton Wildcats Kick Return Specialist/DB David Berg had a sensational season opener in the 35-21 win over the Calgary Colts. That garnered national notice as Berg was named CJFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
The 5’7” sophomore speedster from Harry Ainley High School returned 6 punts for 111 yards, one of those going 67 yards for a major score. Two previous returns of 50 & 100 yards were called back due to penalties before the 2nd quarter gallop.
The Wildcat Rookie of the Year in 2008, Berg also was a nominee for the Halliburton Trophy as the Most Outstanding High School Football Player in Edmonton and a selection to Team North also in 2008.
Next game sees the Wildcats on the road, taking on the Calgary, Saturday August 29th 7:00pm at McMahon Stadium.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
