Edmonton Wildcats Season Opener

The Edmonton Wildcats will be hosting the Calgary Colts at Clarke Park this Saturday August 8th at 7:00pm.The Wildcats will be looking for redemption after a heartbreaking lose to the Colts in the first round of the playoffs last season.

With a 4-3-1 season last year and losing in the first round of the play-offs to the Calgary Colts the Wildcats are eager to get back on the field this year to prove that they are a better team than what they showed last year.

The Wildcats are looking forward to the return of many key veterans. Wide receiver Mike Wojicki will be back for his 5th and final year with the squad and will be called upon this year to fill the shoes of departing wide receiver Kevin Wuthrich who was signed to the Edmonton Eskimos practice rooster this year. Matt Lalande, Corbin Sharun and Neil King will be back with the team and will be a key part of the defensive core. Gabriel David and Rory Connop will be picking up the slack on the defensive side of the ball with the departure of Jesse Schryver who is heading to Manitoba this year to join the Manitoba Bison and to continue on with his education.

Any Pilon will be back this year looking to improve on last years record and is excited with the new crop of rookies that have come to camp. With the likes of rookie receiver Jared Lambert and rookie running back Shiane Runcie the Wildcats look to have a potent offense this season both on the ground and in the air. Rookie Quarterback Adam Senik is coming along nicely and will be backing up Andy this season. He as a great arm is starting to get comfortable with the Wildcats playbook.

The 2009 season looks very bright for the Wildcats this year with a good crop of rookies and returning veterans. The players are eager to get the season underway and are looking forward to the season opener against the Calgary Colts, while focused on improving their record from last year.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field around 7:00 pm nightly.
