Wildcats on the Prowl in Calgary

The Edmonton Wildcats head down the road this weekend to face the 1-1 Calgary Colts at McMahon Stadium on Sunday Sept 12th at 2:00pm.

Both teams are coming off a bye week and the Cats are hungry to put a win on the board this weekend. The Colts are licking their wounds after a demoralizing defeat at the hands of the Regina Thunder in week 2 and are looking to redeem themselves against the Wildcats in their home opener. This will be a good test for the Wildcats as they are working hard this week in practice, focusing on disciplined football, which they are going to have to display if they want to come out on top in this weekends contest.

The offence which is being led this year by 2nd year Quarterback Adam Senuik was 16 of 25 for 145yds in the game against the Hilltops and is showing more confidence with each game played. The Wildcats will be looking to establish the running game in this contest and are looking for big things from running back Shiane Runcie in this Battle of Alberta along with the receiving corp led by 2nd year Wide receivers Jerit Lambert and Mitch Richter who are starting to get in rhythm with their Quarterback. Special teams will continue to be a key factor in this weekend’s matchup, with David Berg and Jerit Lambert on Punt and Kick returns.

On Defense the Linebacker corp of Kevin Hanson, Mike Podloski and Steven Rae are a dominant force in the secondary, leading their team in defensive points and are looking to have solid games in this weekend’s matchup with the Colts. One of the keys on defense will be stopping the run which the Cats have struggled with in their first 2 games. Gabriel David and Rory Connop will need strong performances on the D-Line, putting press on the Colts Quarterback and shutting down the passing game.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field around 7:00 pm nightly.
