Wildcats Take on Defending Champion Hilltops

The Edmonton Wildcats head next door this weekend to Saskatoon, taking on the Hilltops at the Gordie Howe Bowl on Sunday September 25th at 1:00pm. The Wildcats are coming off a solid performance from last weekend’s battle against their cross town rival Huskies and posted their first win of the season. The Cats are now focused on continuing the trend and will have a big test against a strong Hilltops team that currently leads the conference with a 5-0 record after beating the Calgary Colts on the road in Calgary last weekend 22-15. The Cats still have a shot at the play-offs but will need to be firing on all cylinders in Saskatoon if the want to beat the conference leaders.

Offensively the tandem of Jordan Olson and Andrew Johnson worked effectively, moving the ball well against a tough Huskies defense. Taylor Souster had an explosive game against the Huskies racking up 213yds on 25 carries and will need to do more of the same against the stout defense of the Hilltops. Some key targets at the receiver position will be Ryan Smith and Adam Seniuk who had solid games last weekend and will be key factors in the Wildcats getting off to a good start on Sunday.

Defensively Kevin Hanson leads the club in defensive points while holding down 5th spot in the conference and will be relied upon this weekend to fortify the defense along with 5th year Steven Giang and 4th year Ben Garry. Leading the way in the secondary will be Miguel Barker, Zack Brown, Kris Gibson and Sam Badre. Field position and Special teams will also be key factors in the game on Sunday with Ryan Smith and David Ness holding down the kicking duties

Next game sees the Wildcats back home as visitors to face their cross town rival Huskies in a rematch at Clarke Stadium on Saturday Oct 1st, game time 7:00pm.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
