Wildcats vs. Hilltops Game Summary

The Saskatoon Hilltops and Edmonton Wildcats met up for the first and only time this season this afternoon at Clarke Stadium. The Hilltops walked away with a 41-17 victory.

Des Vessey started the game off with a 3-yard touchdown for the Hilltops, giving them a 7-0 lead with 10:41 left in the first quarter. The Hilltops scored another touchdown with 3:36 left in the first when Ryan Turple received a 9 yard pass, giving them a 14-0 lead. The Hilltops increased their lead by another 7 at the beginning of the second quarter with an Evan Kopchynski 12 yard catch. The Wildcats saw some points on the board with a Jordon Olson pass, received by Landyn Vick, reducing the Hilltop lead to 21-7. The Hilltops reciprocated with a Logan Fischer 6 yard touchdown with 4:47 left in the first half. They followed up with a field goal with 2:18 left. Quarterback Jordan Olson pushed through a 1 yard touchdown with 0:39 left, followed immediately by a 37 yard Ryan Smith field goal, ending the first half with a score of 31-17 for the Hilltops.

The second half started out with a second Evan Kopchynski touchdown towards the end of the third quarter, making the score at the end of Q3 38-17. The only movement the fourth quarter saw on the scoreboard was a 24-yard Brett Thorarinsson field goal, bringing the final score to 41-17 for the away team.

The Wildcats total offense saw 325 yards, 62 on the ground and 278 in the air. Pass rushing was lead by Armand Katamba with 4 carries for a total of 30 yards. Pass receiving was lead by Ryan Smith with 9 catches for 92 yards, followed closely by Tristan Schultenkamper with 6 catches for 91 yards.

Wildcats defense was lead by Defensive Back James Ens who had 9 tackles and 1 fumble return for a total of 20 points. He was followed by Linebackers Kieran Thomas and Cameron Maschmeyer who each had 5 tackles, for a total of 10 points each. The total defensive points were 106.

The last game of the regular season for the Wildcats is Sunday, October 11 at 12pm against the Winnipeg Rifles at Clarke Stadium.

Wildcats vs. Hilltops Oct.4

The Edmonton Wildcats are hosting the Saskatoon Hilltops Sunday afternoon at Clarke Stadium. This is the first and only time these two teams meet in the 2015 regular season.

The Wildcats are 1-5 coming into the game and the Hilltops are 6-0. The Wildcats are coming off a narrow loss in Winnipeg, where the Rifles took a 35-32 victory. The Hilltops didn’t play last weekend, having had a bye week.

September 27 Player of the Game

Congratulations to #20 Alex Wilander who was the September 27 On The Rocks Player of the Game! Alex had 121 all-purpose yards, returning five punts for 54 yards and two kick-offs 67 yards He received a $50 gift certificate to OTR to recognize his contribution to the game.

Wildcats at Rifles Game Summary

The Edmonton Wildcats met with the Winnipeg Rifles for the first time in the 2015 season on Sunday in Winnipeg. The Rifles took a 35-32 home field win.

The Wildcats started the game off with a Ryan Smith touchdown only 2:37 into the game, giving them an early 7-0 lead. At 5:16 the Rifles saw some points on the board when a safety was conceded. Ian Lee ran one in for the Rifles at 7:55, giving the home team a 9-7 lead. The Wildcats ended the first quarter by taking back the lead with a Ryan Smith field goal, bringing it to 10-9 for the ‘Cats. The second quarter saw no change on the scoreboard until 12:17 when Ryan Smith kicked another field goal for the Wildcats. This was followed by a Rifle touchdown by Odun Ogidan at 13:26, giving them a 16-13 lead. The Wildcats saw a single point added onto the board at 14:52 when a field goal went wide.

The second half started off with an Alexander Tachinski touchdown for the Rifles at 3:19, giving them a 23-14 lead. Brad Mikoluff added to the lead with a field goal at 8:00. Ryan Smith kicked another one through for the Wildcats with 0:12 left in the quarter, ending the third with a Rifle 26-17 lead. Half way through the last quarter, Brad Mikoluff kicked a Rifle field goal, which was followed less than a minute later by another Odun Ogidan touchdown, giving the Rifles a 35-17 lead with 7:53 left in the game. Jordan Olson ran one in for the Wildcats at 9:48, bringing the Rifle lead down to 35-23. The Wildcats tried for a 2-point conversion which unfortunately was not successful. The Rifles conceded a safety at 13:10, which was followed 0:41 later by a Ronnie Oling touchdown, giving the Wildcats an additional 9 points on the board. Despite a strong comeback in the fourth quarter, the game ended with a Rifle win of 35-32.

The Wildcats total offense saw 441 yards, 359 in the air and 121 on the ground. Rushing was led by Bray Josue who had 14 carries for 70 yards. Pass receiving was led by 5th year Receiver Ryan Smith with 4 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jordan Olson completed 19 out of 43 attempts for 359 yards, 1 touchdown, and threw 3 interceptions.

The Wildcats defense was led by Defensive Back Tafara Nemutambwe with 6 tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1 pass knock down, and 1 interception for a total of 20 points. Close behind him was Linebacker Cameron Maschmeyer who had 4 tackles, 5 assisted tackles, and 1 forced fumble for a total of 15 points.

The next game is Sunday, October 4 against the Saskatoon Hilltops at Clarke Stadium.

September 19 Player of the Game

Congratulations to #45 Jeremy Fagnan who was the September 19 On The Rocks Player of the Game! Jeremy led the defense with 4 tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 1 special teams tackle, and 1 fumble return for a total of 13 points. He received a $50 gift certificate to OTR to recognize his contribution to the game.

Terry Fox Run

On Sunday morning, despite the rain and the post-game bumps and bruises, over 40 Wildcats participated in the Terry Fox Run at Hawrelak Park. The numbers are still being finalized, but around 2,200 participants took place in the Sunday morning run, and it has raised over $90,000 so far.

 

Wildcats at Colts Game Summary

The Calgary Colts hosted the Edmonton Wildcats Saturday night for the last meeting of these two teams in the 2015 regular season. After a strong defensive battle, the Colts came out with a victory of 20-18.

The first quarter saw only a single point on the board, making it a score of 1-0 for the Colts. The second quarter started off with a Marshall Brown field goal 0:17 into the quarter, increasing the Colts lead to 4-0. At 3:53, Olson passed to Hakunavanhu, giving the Wildcats the first touchdown of the game. Score was 7-4 for the Wildcats.  The Colts reciprocated with an Xavier Ramsay touchdown, taking back the lead. In the last play of the half, Ryan Smith kicked a Wildcat field goal, reducing the Colt lead to 11-10 for the half.

The second half saw no movement on the score board until 6:36 into Q3, when Jordan Olson ran one in, giving the Wildcats a 17-11 lead. Marshall Brown kicked another Colt field goal at 9:20, ending Q3 with a score of 17-14 for the Cats. The 4th quarter was a defensive battle with no shift in the score until 14:17, when the Wildcats got a single point. In the last play of the game, Colt Coel Bazinet ran one in, giving them the lead for a final score of 20-18.

The Wildcats total offense saw 339 yards, 183 in the air and 161 on the ground. Rushing was led by Bray Josue who had 21 carries for 135 yards. Pass receiving was led by Luther Hakunavahu with 6 catches for 57 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jordan Olson completed 17 out of 27 attempts for 183 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.

The Wildcats defense was led by Linebacker Jeremy Fagnan with 4 tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 1 special teams tackle, and 1 fumble return for a total of 13 points. Also leading the defense was Defensive Back Jayden Dalke who had 3 tackles, 1 special teams tackle, and 1 interception and Linebacker Cameron Maschmeyer who had 5 tackles and 1 assisted tackle.

The Wildcats are 1-4 heading into their first game with the Winnipeg Rifles. The next game is Sunday, September 27 at 12pm in Winnipeg.

Wildcats at Colts Sept. 19

We are heading down to Calgary on Saturday, September 19th to play the Colts at Mosaic Stadium!

The Wildcats are heading into the game 1-3 and the Colts are 2-2. Both teams are coming off of a Bye week. We will not be hosting a viewing party at On The Rocks due to a scheduling conflict, however the game will be live-streamed here, and the score will be updated on our Twitter.

September 5 Player of the Game

Congratulations to #70 Travis Loov who was the September 5 On The Rocks Player of the Game! Travis had 3 pass knock downs and 1 quarterback sack.  He received a $50 gift certificate to OTR to recognize his contribution to the game.
