OFFENSE-JORDAN SAMOIL- EDMONTON WILDCATS
The rookie tailback and product of Bev Facey continued his incredible 2012 season in the Wildcats 48-34 shootout win over their Clarke Park co-tenants Edmonton Huskies on September 21. Samoil set new PFC & CJFL standards with a 365-yard, 4-touchdown effort as he broke former Edmonton Wildcat Tristan Jones PFC record of 344 rushing yards set in a 2006 game and bested the previous CJFL single game best of 355 yards set by Craig Carter of the Windsor AKO Fratmen in 1999. Samoil leads the PFC in rushing with 1279 yards.
This is the second time in the 2012 season that Samoil has staked a claim to the Russell Athletic CJFL Offensive Player of the Week Award as he won it in Week 2 of the season following a 309-yard performance against the Edmonton Huskies.

Wildcats Battle for Second Place with Hilltops at Clarke

The 4-2 Edmonton Wildcats host the 5-1 Saskatoon Hilltops this Sunday September 30th at Clarke Park start time 1:00pm. The Hilltops currently occupy 2nd place in the conference while the Wildcats are looking to grab a share of that spot this weekend.

Offensively the Wildcats racked up over 600 yds in offense with rookie running back Jordan Samoil breaking a single game rushing record for the PFC and CJFL this past weekend against the Huskies and is currently leading the conference with 1279 rushing yards. Samoil will be looking for another big game against the Hilltops but it could be tuff sledding as the Hilltops have been solid against the run this year and will want to focus on shutting him down and limiting him to minimal yardage. That could be a tall order as Samoil has had two 300 plus rushing games this season which also ties a CJFL record. Jordan Olson has been spreading the ball around quite nicely in the last few games and Tyler Henry and Brad Quartel have been a couple of his favorite targets. Quartel is currently 7h in receiving with 30 catches for 368 yds and 2 TD’s while Tyler Henry and Ryan Smith are not far behind and catching up quickly.

Defensively DB Adam Laurensse has been putting up some solid numbers and is currently 4th in the conference with 71 defensive points while LB Aiden Panchyshyn is just outside the top ten with 60 points. The defense will need to focus on dominating the line of scrimmage this weekend and keeping the Hilltops QB out of rhythm if they want to come away with a win as the Hilltops have been posting some impressive offensive numbers of late. Ideen Samadi continues to have a good rookie season with his field goal kicking as he won special teams player of the week in the lose to Calgary a couple of weeks ago and is currently 2nd behind Jordan Samoil in scoring points with 60.

Next game sees the Wildcats hit the road for their final regular season game against the Regina Thunder Sunday October 7th 1:00pm at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.

Wildcats Run Roughshod Over Huskies

It was a record setting night as The Edmonton Wildcats and the Edmonton Huskies squared off at Clarke Park Friday Night in front of a large crowd of 900 vocal fans, which saw Jordan Samoil set a PFC single game rushing record of 365yds on 33 carries and 4 TD’s. This eclipses Tristan Jones record which was set back in 2006 of 344 yds. The Wildcats went on to win by a score of 48-34. The win puts the Wildcats at 4-2 and a share of second place in the conference with the Saskatoon Hilltops and the Regina Thunder who play each other this Saturday night at Mosaic Stadium.

The Huskies took an early 6-point lead compliments of a pair of Jonathan Heidebrecht field goals, and led after the first quarter 6-0. Then the Jordan Samoil show commenced as he punched one in from 2 yds out his first of 4 on the night to put the Wildcats up 7-6. The Huskies answered right back though as Bessmertniy scampered in from 7yds out to go back on top 13-7. Shortly thereafter the Cats put a nice drive together and finished it off with a 6yd TD run by QB Jordan Olson to tie the score at 13 after a botched convert attempt. A 2 point safety given up by the Huskies finished off the 1st half scoring as the Wildcats went into the locker room up 15-13. The third quarter saw more Samoil as he rushed in from 1yd out for his second on the night to increase the lead to 22-13. After a Ryan Migadel pick the Wildcats took to the air and hit Tylor Henry on a 17yd toss into the end zone to put the Wildcats up 29-13. The Huskies running back Bessmertniy answered from 10yds out to cut the lead to 29-20. Ideen Samadi finished the 3rd quarter scoring with an 18yd field goal to increase the lead to 32-20. The 4th quarter saw a conceded safety by the Huskies and 2 more TD’s by Jordan Samoil. The Huskies wouldn’t go away though as they notched 2 TD’s of their own. But it was too little to late as the Wildcats went on to win it by a score of 48-34.

Offensively for the Wildcats they racked up 630 total yds on the night with 410 yds rushing and 240 yds passing. Jordan Olson completed 13 of 21 for 240 yds and a TD while Jordan Samoil had a record setting night with 33 carries for 365yds and 4 TD’s. Receiver Tylor Henry had 3 catches on the evening for 64 yds and 1 TD, while Brad Quartel had 3 catches for 45yds. For the Huskies they accumulated 452 total yds with 208 yds on the ground and 275 yds in the air. Trevor Erdmann was 20 for 33 for 275yds, 3 INT’s and 3 TD’s. Stas Bessmertniy carried 13 times for 81 yds while Sam Schwab had 2 catches for 61 yds and 1 TD. Stas Bessmertniy had 6 catches for 48 yds and 2 TD’s

Defensively for the Wildcats, Brett Morrow had a solid night leading with 17 points on 7 tackles and a QB sack, followed by Ryan Migadel who had 4 tackles and an IC for 14 points. Defensively for the Huskies Chance Hanson picked up 14 points on 7 tackles followed by Brandt Kolybaba who had 13 points on 5 tackles and a fumble return.

Next week sees the Wildcats at home to host the Saskatoon Hilltops at Clarke Park on Sunday September 30th game time 1:00pm.

Wildcats and Huskies in a Rematch at Clarke Park

The Edmonton Wildcats play host to their cross town rivals the Huskies this Friday night under the lights at Clarke Park start time 8:00pm. The Wildcats are coming off a hard fought lose to the Calgary Colts this past weekend and want to get back into the win column and get back into second place in the conference. The Huskies on the other hand are looking for their first win of the season and a bit of vindication after their lose last month to the Wildcats

Offensively the Wildcats, with Quarterback Jordan Olson at the helm will be looking to control the line of scrimmage. Olson had a solid game against the Colts with the offense racking up 491 yards of total offense, rushing 13 times for 99 yards and passing for 237 yards on 21 of 30 attempts in a losing cause against the Colts. Jordan Samoil increased his rushing lead in the conference to 937 yards and 9 TD’s on the season, after a 161 yard and 1 TD performance last weekend. He will be looking for another big game against the Huskies this Friday. Olson has been spreading the ball around of late and his receivers have produced some solid numbers in the last couple of games.

Defensively Linebacker Aiden Panchyshyn and DB Adam Laurensse are both ranked in the top 10 in the conference and will be called upon this Friday to continue their dominance on defense. On special teams Ideen Samadi is leading the conference with 61 points followed closely by Jordan Samoil who has 54 points.

Wildcats Lassoed by Colts

The Edmonton Wildcats drop to 3-2 and a share of second place with the Saskatoon Hilltops and The Regina Thunder after a very close hard fought lose to the Colts this past weekend in Calgary by a score of 31-23

The conferences top two clubs clashed for the second time in 3 weeks. The Colts downed the Wildcats 28-18 at Clarke Park two weeks ago and looked to put some breathing room between themselves and not only the Wildcats, but the Saskatoon Hilltops & Regina Thunder as well. The Wildcats on the other hand were focused on securing a share of first place in the conference

The Wildcats took an early 6-point lead compliments of a pair of Ideen Samadi field goals, and then the Colts bolted out to the lead as Jermaine Gabriel returned a kickoff 89 yards for the score. Samadi kicked his third field goal of the quarter to put the Cats back in front by a pair after one period.

Calgary regained the lead as Rodreke Joseph made a spectacular 10-yard grab from Derek Cooper who went 9 of 19 for 152 yards, one play after a Nik Petros touchdown grab was ruled incomplete as he caught the ball with his foot on the back of the end zone stripe. A David Ness punt single and Marshal Broom upped the score to 17-10 Colts, but Wildcats tailback Jordan Samoil scored his 9th touchdown of the year on a 1-yard run to tie the game at 17 after 30 minutes. Samoil ran for 161 yards on the day.
Colts tailback Chucks Okafor notched the lone score of the third quarter as he scampered 4 yards to give the Colts a 24-17 edge after 3.

Samadi would hit a pair of field goals, his second one being a 50-yard drive to pull the visitors to within a single point, but Okafor would clinch the win with a 5-yard touchdown to give the Colts a 31- 23 win and staying undefeated on the season.

Next week sees the Wildcats at home to host their cross town rivals the Huskies at Clarke Park under the lights on Friday September 21st game time 8:00pm.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.

Wildcats & Colts in Showdown at McMahon

The 3-1 Edmonton Wildcats take to the road and head south where they will rumble with their southern rivals the Calgary Colts this Sunday September 16th at McMahon Stadium start time 2:00pm. The Colts currently occupy top spot in the conference at 4-0 and the Wildcats want a piece of that spot this weekend

Offensively Jordan Olsen had a rebound game last weekend against the Winnipeg Rifles that saw him rack up 121 yard rushing on 7 carries and was 14 of 21 for 203 yards passing which netted him PFC Offense player of the week. That performance is what will be needed this weekend to grab a share of top spot in the conference. Winnipeg held Jordan Samoil to just 66 yds on the ground last week and will need to be more productive this weekend as he was against the Colts here at home a couple of weeks ago that saw him rack up 218 yards on 20 carries. Rookie Wide receiver Brad Quartel has been Olsen’s go to guy of late and has been putting up some impressive numbers as he was targeted 5 times for 85 yards and a TD in the win against the Rifles last week.

Defensively the Cats held the Rifles to just 3 points in the first half of last weekend’s game but then took their foot off the gas as Winnipeg put up 27 points in the second half to make it closer than it should have been. They won’t get away with that in Calgary this weekend and will need to be focused on playing 60 minutes of football if they want to come away with a win. DB Adam Laurensse posted another 20 point defensive game last week long with LB Aiden Panchyshyn with 7 tackles for 14 points. Good productive number which they will need against the Colts this weekend. On Special teams Ideen Samadi is second in the conference behind Jordan Samoil in scoring points with 45 and hopes to continue his success against the Colts this weekend.

Next game sees the Wildcats at home to host their cross town rival Huskies under the Friday Night Lights September 21st 8:00pm at Clarke Park.

All Edmonton Wildcat practices are at Rundle Park and the players take to the field at around 7:30 pm nightly.
